Japanese Gardens at Manito Park
The Nishinomiya Japanese Garden was created as part of the World's Fair in Spokane in 1974. It's small compared to others, but it's highly regarded, ranked the 16th best public Japanese garden in North America. This photo means a lot to me because of the circumstances behind it. In 2o14 I was treated for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and after getting out of the hospital from my first week of chemotherapy, I wandered out to take pictures and ended up here. I was disoriented by my circumstances, but felt anchored by the beauty and serenity of this scene. I'm now in remission from Lymphoma, and I like to think of this garden as one of the "treatments" that helped with the cure.
